Meet Dr. MJ Yang

I’m so glad you’re here. This page offers a glimpse into who I am—both as a psychologist and as a person. My clinical work has been shaped by personal and professional journeys across continents. Whether you’re seeking understanding, connection, or inspiration, I hope my story resonates with you. Let’s take this step together.

My first clinically relevant experience was in 2003, when I worked as a paraprofessional counselor for youth at Teacher Chang, the largest and most reputable community counseling center in Taiwan. This experience confirmed my calling to become a healer and deepened my commitment to supporting others through clinical work.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from National Taiwan University (NTU), graduating magna cum laude in both programs. As part of my master’s training, I completed internships in the Adult and Child divisions of the Department of Psychiatry at National Taiwan University.

In 2009, I became a licensed clinical psychologist in Taiwan and began working full-time as a clinician and later as a supervisor at Clinical Psychology Center at National Taiwan University Hospital. Over six years of clinical practice, I deepened my expertise and cultivated a desire to integrate my experiences through further training.

This led me to the United States, where I pursued a Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) at John F. Kennedy University in the San Francisco Bay Area. During my doctoral training, I gained diverse clinical experience in settings such as elementary and high schools, community mental health centers, primary care clinics, pediatric clinics, child development centers, and hospitals.

I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Psychiatry Department and Kalmanovitz Child Development Center at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, followed by a postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department in Santa Clara.

In 2021, after obtaining my license in California, I fulfilled my American dream by opening my own practice. It has been my honor to support the community I care deeply about, helping clients navigate challenges and build meaningful lives.

As an immigrant, a psychologist trained and experienced in both East and West, a mother in a multicultural household, and an entrepreneur who values freedom and independence to pursue my dreams, I have devoted my practice to supporting immigrants, international mothers, and entrepreneurs.

My Approach

Dealing with challenges in life is never easy; nor is deciding to seek professional support with a therapist. As a therapist, I strive to provide a safe and supportive space for you to heal and grow. I am looking forward to working with you together to increase awareness, explore your strengths/identities, and develop new ways to live your life to its fullest potential.

Witnessing my clients to better connect to themselves, their loved ones, and grow new potential is the most fulfilling part of my work. My approach is integrative, evidence/strength-based with an emphasis on relational, Jungian psychology principles, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)/Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills. Based on your needs and interests, we can work on coping strategies (i.e., anxiety/stress management, interpersonal social skills...) using CBT/DBT skills to improve your everyday function. I also love working with your archetypal materials (dream, images, complexes, synchronicities...) using Jungian concepts to facilitate the process of individuation for personal growth.

I diligently follow the practitioner-scholar model with a scientific mind in my practice. I continuously augment my skills with advanced trainings and integrate state-of-the-art evidence-based research and theories to conceptualize my clinical work as well as present my work in various conferences. In addition, I also enjoy training next generation of budding psychologist students and participate in community based outreach programs.
